(ANSAmed) - DAMIETTA, 28 NOV - This afternoon in Egypt at the port of Damietta, located east of Alexandria, the inauguration ceremony of the 'Ro-Ro' ferry line for the transport of goods between the Egyptian city itself and Trieste will be held.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by Italian Ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and Egyptian Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel Al-Wazir.
As is well known, the project, sanctioned by the signing of a bilateral agreement between Italy and Egypt last January, will allow goods to be transported between the two countries in about 60 hours, thanks to the use of blockchain technology and the digitalisation of customs documents, within a broader framework of cooperation between customs and central authorities. The 'Ro-Ro' line will also favour the connection through Italy and Egypt of the European market with the African and Middle Eastern markets. It will particularly benefit trade in fresh, perishable and frozen agricultural products.
The governments of Italy and Egypt have in fact strongly supported the realisation of this project, in the framework of the cooperation and strategic partnership launched with the Mattei Plan for Africa. During the inauguration there will also be an inspection of the container terminal 'Tahya Misr 1' and the port's giant cranes.
