At the close of the ninth edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the Italian Embassy in Canada organised a dinner at the historic Rideau Club in Ottawa, conceived and prepared by Chef Daniele Corona, who in 2022 guided the 'Don Alfonso' restaurant in Toronto to its first Michelin star and recently obtained a Michelin star for his restaurant 'DaNico', and the embassy's talented chef Cristian Lepore.
At the opening of the event, Matteo Gazzetti, head of the embassy's commercial office, referring to the slogan of the 2024 edition of the Week 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine', emphasised how the hallmark of the Italian interpretation of the Mediterranean Diet is to create recipes that combine taste and quality ingredients, promoting a healthy lifestyle. Among the many guests present were the president of the Supreme Court and third highest office of the state, Richard Wagner, the Nobel Prize winner for physics, Arthur MacDonald, the president of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Peter Boehm, the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Oliphant, the president of the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Sylvain Charbonneau, the president of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Alejandro Adem, the president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Ted Hewitt, as well as representatives from the Canadian political, economic, scientific, media and cultural world.
The evening's menu, focused on modern reinterpretations of some traditional Italian dishes and ingredients, accompanied by quality Italian wines, was a great success among all those present. The event followed a scientific initiative, organised last week by the Embassy's Scientific Attaché at the Royal Society of Canada, dedicated to the impact of the Mediterranean Diet on health.
